Is your house energy efficient? Well, making it that way could earn you $1,200.

Looking at a bright red tarp over the front door and I start thinking contamination zone, but really it's simply an experiment to find air leaks.

"So this kind of like pressurizes the house?" I ask Chris Flores.

"Depressurize," he replies. "We're sucking the air out. We're trying to determine where it's coming from."

Flores and Drew Sutter are performing an energy audit. A quick flip of the switch shows drafts in the fireplace, windows, and outlets.

The audit is all part of CPS Energy's goal to reduce our city's electrical consumption by 771 megawatts by the year 2020.

"We actually have a professional come into the home," says Albert Cantu, "take a look at the house and tell them where they're losing energy and wasting energy. This gives them an area that they can work on, tackle and make any corrections that they might need."

And the incentive for making those sometimes costly changes is not just a reduction on one's bill but over $1,000 in cash.

"And when you add the $1,250 with the additional rebates that CPS Energy offers, you have a great potential for cost savings right off the bat," says Cantu.

Depending on the type of service you want, there is a small $25 or $95 fee to have a crew perform an audit on your home. Or you can download the online app for free at www.cpsenergysavers.com and earn a $5 credit on your bill.
