A Bexar County constable who was killed Saturday night in a fiery crash is being remembered as a loving father.
Precinct 3 Constable Mark Scianna lost control of his vehicle on Lockhill-Selma Road around 10:34 p.m. -- just 30 minutes before his shift was suppose to end. He was 49.
Bexar County police said Scianna's vehicle was traveling with its emergency lights, but it's unknown whether or not he was pursuing another vehicle.
Scianna leaves behind a 15-year-old son with special needs. Coworkers said the constable was always a father first and a police officer second. He was known to call or text his son every night, sometimes to sing him songs.
Cell phone records show Scianna's son texted him around 10:30 p.m. -- when the crash occurred -- and again before he went to bed around 11 p.m.
San Antonio firefighters received a call around 10:34 p.m. for a one car rollover with an ejection. Scianna’s emergency toner also went off around the same time. Firefighters reportedly saw a fireball and continued flames before arriving to the mangled vehicle.
Scianna's shift usually ends at 11 p.m.
Police said physical evidence shows Scianna was making a turn onto George Road. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
Scianna worked in the past as a Castle Hills police officer.
