The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is implementing a new program that might help ease your legal troubles.
If you have an active warrant in Bexar County, investigators are asking that you turn yourself in.
There are currently thousands of active misdemeanor warrants within the county. That's why authorities are asking those who are in violation of the law to go to the Sheriff's Office on Misdemeanor Monday, January 16.
They say turning yourself in is the best thing you can do.
"We're asking folks to help themselves. Either come turn themselves in , or we're going to after them...We have to because it's a warrant," says Detective Louis Antu.
The department recently sent out a letter to inform those who have active misdemeanor warrants. Investigators say it's better to take care of things now in order to avoid any additional legal problems.
"We would hate to go to your employer, hate to go to your home, hate for you to be involved in a traffic stop. And not only if your involved in a traffic stop would your vehicle be impounded, but it's going to cost you more money," said Antu. "And by you turning yourself in, we can work with you and get you out quicker."
Authorities say even if you have an outstanding warrants but did not get a letter, you should still turn yourself in at the Sheriff's Office located at 200 N. Comal. For information, call 210-335-6070.
