SAN ANTONIO -- Olga Sandoval and her family opened Andrew's Tacos To Go two decades ago. In that time they've operated in peace near the Bexar County Detention Center at 200 N. Comal.
In September, Andrew's Tacos was cited for operating within 300 feet of the food establishment that provides services for the Detention Center. Aramark has a $4.9 million contract with Bexar County to provide detention food services.
The City of San Antonio requires mobile vending operations to have written notarized permission from permitted food establishments in order to operate within 300 feet from food establishments.
Andrew's Tacos obtained a letter from Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz, but it wasn't enough. Sandoval said she was denied a letter of permission from Aramark.
Aramark did not return phone calls to KENS 5.
For now, Andrew's Tacos has moved about a mile away to Buena Vista and Sabinas.
