On Saturday night, KENS 5 talent and members of the community put on their red dancing shoes for the 7th annual Red Shoes Gala, honoring Bill Klesse, CEO Valero Energy.

Event Chairs included Ernesto and Robin Ancira (who also became proud grandparents that night! Their daughter Robin delivered her first baby).

According to the event's website, "In 2002, a four-year-old girl was brought into the St. PJ’s Emergency Shelter along with her six-year-old brother. They had been removed from their home due to severe abuse and neglect. This little girl was very scared and crying. While the case manager was comforting her she noticed her red glittered shoes. When asked, “Where did you get those?” The little girl responded, “My grandma gave me these shoes because someday I am going to go home.” "

The website also states that the St. Peter-St. Joseph Children’s Home works diligently to provide a nurturing “home” for all of the abused and neglected children who come through our doors. Those little red shoes have since been the inspiration for our Red Shoes Gala. They have served as a reminder that each child dreams of a special, safe place called home.

KENS 5's Sarah Lucero emceed this year's event and other guests included Kellie Patterson, Joe Reinagel and Karen Grace.
