NEW ORLEANS - Police have confirmed the body of a man pulled from the Mississippi River is that of missing Houston executive Doug Schantz, according to the Associated Press.

Police pulled the body of a man from the Mississippi River Tuesday morning but had to wait to confirm through family members whether it is was the missing Houston man. The body was found near where authorities suspect he may have fallen into the river.

Tuesday morning, NOPD Superintendent Warren Riley said he believed that Schantz, who last seen since in the early morning hours Friday, after leaving a French Quarter club, fell into the Mississippi River and added that he had been drinking.

According to Riley, surveillance video shows Schantz near the steamship Natchez around 2:40 a.m., after leaving a bar in the French Quarter, adding that he appeared disoriented, leading police to suggest that he may have fallen into the Mississippi River.

The video by the Natchez, according to Riley, showed him walking along a gang plank before disappearing from view. His body has not been found.

“From 2:40 to 6:40 a.m., video was watched, and Mr. Schantz, once he walked out of the frame near the Natchez, he never returned on any frames of the video. We are not certain, but it appears as though Mr. Schantz may have fallen into the river.”

Video showed Schantz leaving Razzoo's, a club in the French Quarter, around 2 a.m. He was unaccompanied, according to police.
