That time of year again to "spring forward" not "fall back" is here. You've already felt it waking up Sunday morning. Or maybe you're just now realizing it and it's Monday.
Changing the hands of time one hour ahead is never an easy adjustment. Thank goodness there's a day to get used to the time change.
So how do you handle the change? What should you do to help you get back into the swing of things on Monday? I don't have any real answers, but maybe some suggestions.
Wake up early on Sunday and finish what you set out to do before the work week starts. I took on a project that's been sitting in the back of my head for a while. Well, more like my back porch. It was the deck to be exact.
No rain. No wind. No cold, chilly air was going to stop me from finally taking on this project I was dreading. A couple years of the harsh elements put a hurtin' on my backyard deck. It was time to take on this assignement and maybe enjoy the sun and hopefully get lot's of Vitamin D while I'm at it.
I spent my Saturday and Sunday tirelessly working on the deck by way of sanding, stripping the old stain and prepping it for when I officially stain it. That's right, it's still not over, but I'm almost there.
Not the way most people would want to spend their weekend, but it was the only available day. Leading up to this point, there were nothing but cold, rainy days or days I needed to attend an event. This was the only time and the weather was perfect. Besides, it was so beautiful outside, that it distracted me from the work I was actually doing. It made my time outside worthwhile.
The main idea was to get my day going with a definite task at hand, and to enjoy the outdoors.
Life coach, author and former Great Day Sunday guest Janice Taylor says on her website that some of the best ways to survive the time change is to "not nap" and to stay awake because it could really put a number on your internal clock.
Janice goes on to say that you should "enjoy the light!" I'm guessing that embracing the sun could really boost your energy and your outlook on the day. In other words, it's good for your body and soul to know that spring is almost here.
So don't worry about losing that one hour of sleep. It means being able to enjoy one more hour of sunlight and in our area, we get a lot of sunshine. After a long, cold and dreary winter, we deserve it!
