Survivors say it's a miracle they lived through an East Texas tornado

Just north of Canton, Texas, a mother and her son survived a tornado by hunkering down in an underground tunnel.

On Monday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in three East Texas counties following severe weather and deadly tornadoes over the weekend.

As storm victims began to clean up what’s left of their homes and belongings, they shared their stories of survival.

KENS 5’s Andrea Martinez spoke to a mother and son who were living near Canton when a tornado ripped apart their home. They say that the spirit of a lost loved one shielded them from the storm.
