Girl asks Santa for help with her left hand

7-year-old Haven Woods has a special request for Santa Claus this year... to be able to use her left hand.

MADISONVILLE, TENN. - Haven Woods has a very simple Christmas wish this year. When the 7-year-old wrote her letter to Santa, she asked if he would bring help so her "lefty" could work like her "righty." Her left hand, that is. which doesn't function as well as her right hand.

"I was in tears," Haven's mom, Rebecca Woods, said. “She had a stroke at some point in utero. We didn't find out until she was about 2-years-old. "

Woods said the letter reminded her that there is so much in the world that people take for granted, even having two working hands.

“To me, Christmas should be all about simple. It’s gotten so commercialized in these last few years. Kids don’t realize how good they have it. There are so many kids out there that don’t have the same things they have or are able to get what they can get because they either don’t have the finances or they’re not physically able," Woods said.

Even though Haven has attended therapy since she was one, doctors don't know if she'll ever be able to fully use her left hand, but her family is holding out hope.

"She's come a long way. Just this last summer, she's started using it more and more," Woods said.

Haven is also holding out hope that if Santa can't bring the help she needs this year, he will eventually.

"How long are you going to ask him," WBIR asked. "16 years!" she cheered.

Not to worry, Haven still has plenty of presents waiting for her under the tree. She also asked Santa for a "Frozen" thermos.

"That's all I've gotten out of her. Help for lefty and a 'Frozen' thermos," Woods laughed.
