AUSTIN -- An animal shelter made sure a dog named Spunky's last wish was granted.
The Austin Animal Center said Spunky is from Wisconsin and loves playing in the snow. His owner, Ashley Niels, also works at the shelter.
Spunky wasn't acting like himself, and Niels said a vet confirmed her worst fears: Spunky had cancer.
She didn't want him to suffer and scheduled an appointment to have him put to sleep.
However, she realized she had promised Spunky he would see snow again.
He lived in Texas for the last several years, so the chances of playing in a snow storm again were very slim.
"The prospect of breaking that promise to him sent me into a panic," Niels told The Dodo.
Volunteers at the shelter came together to bring snow to Spunky. They rented a snow machine and brought it to Niels' house.
The Austin Animal Center also brought the snow machine back to the shelter and let other dogs there experience the flurries.
The shelter posted photos of the dogs on its Facebook page.
