SAN ANTONIO -- The Texas Department of Transportation is hoping for another Fiesta season without any alcohol-related fatalities.

On Tuesday, the department unveiled a new voucher for its Fiesta Safe Rides campaign during a press conference at the Pearl Brewery. This year, the vouchers are in the form of credit cards.

TxDOT is giving away 2,500 cards at taxi stands at designated Fiesta events. The cards are pre-loaded with $20 and may only be used only throughout the Fiesta celebration.

Partygoers are always encouraged to line up a P.A.S.S. -- an acronym for Person Appointed to Stay Sober. But if a designated driver isn't available, get a cab.

Crediting the success of the past educational program, TxDOT cited zero alcohol-related fatalities in 2011 and 2012.

"Safety is the number one priority for TxDOT and its community partners," said Robbi Branche-Smith, Traffic Safety Specialist of TxDOT. "Our Fiesta Safe Rides Campaign encourages all motorists to commit to a safe ride to and from Fiesta events and make responsible decisions before leaving home.

The Fiesta Safe Rides campaign is co-sponsored by Valero, Silver Eagle Distributors, San Antonio
Police Department, Fiesta Commission, Yellow Cab and Gabriel's Wine & Spirit.
