BOISE -- A veteran with the National Forest Service with experience in New Hampshire and Michigan has been named as the next leader of the Payette National Forest in Idaho.

Agency officials announced the appointment Monday of Keith Lannom as the new supervisor of a forest that spans 2.3 million acres across west and central Idaho.

Lannom takes over for Suzanne Rainville, who retired in March.

Lannom takes over after serving as deputy supervisor at the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. He has also held administrative positions with the Ottawa National Forest in Michigan.

The Payette National Forest is headquartered in McCall and divvied up into five districts.
