KENS 5 wins 17 Texas AP Broadcasters Awards

SAN ANTONIO -- The Texas Associated Press Broadcasters 2016 contest award winners were announced Thursday, with KENS 5 receiving a total of 17 awards, more than any other San Antonio television station.

The station received seven first place awards. This is the eighth year in a row that KENS 5 has placed first in the station photojournalism category.

Other first place awards went to KENS 5 journalists Sue Calberg, Michael Humphries, Luke Simons, Vinnie Vinzetta and Stacey Welsh, plus staff awards for spot news coverage and best digital site.

Forty-seven stations from across Texas submitted 788 entries in the contest, including newscasts, sportscasts, weathercasts, spot news and video from 2016.

Television stations are separated into four divisions, with San Antonio in Division II.
