Gala raises more than $1.3 million to fight blood cancer

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society raised more than $1.3 million for blood cancer research.

SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonians opened up their wallets and raised more than $1.3 million Friday night to fight blood cancer.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society "Woman of the Year 2017" Jenifer Wilkinson raised more than $261,000, breaking the record set by April Ancira in 2016. "Man of the Year 2017" Michael Schultz also raised more than $150,000.

The annual competition will pick back up next spring, with KENS 5's Karen Grace acting as a co-chair.
