Did you find it difficult to work out consistently during the summer? I sure did. With kids being home almost every day, and getting up after 8 in the morning, many days I could not muster up the motivation to get in a long workout.
Luckily, I did manage to keep my base. So the occasional 6 mile run or a 25 mile bike was still part of my day - just not every day. It really affected my speed. My running pace slowed to almost 10 minute miles. My cycling wasn't as bad, thank goodness.
So, now that school has started for the kiddos, I am back on board with planned workouts, and definite goals.
I am still feeling a lot of doubts, but I have started my training anyway. I have set two goals for myself in October and November. The Longhorn 70.3 Ironman, October 17, in Austin is the first, then the second is the San Antonio Rock-n-Roll Marathon in November.
This time around I have asked my friend and triathlon trainer, Linda Miller to help me map out a training plan. I asked her if she thought I had enough time to get ready for those events and she seems to think I will be fine.
Dr. Jason Garrett has given me an Airrosti tweak to take care of any aches and pains that are still lingering. (I have plantar fasciitis in my right heel, a strained hamstring, and a tight hip flexor.) I have been cycling with a super fast group (at least I think so) that meets on Tuesday mornings and puts me to shame! Also, Hawaii Ironman trainer, Greg Bell, will be helping me with my swim stroke. I meet with him soon to learn how to become a more efficient swimmer.
I am excited about how things are going to go this fall and sharing my training experiences with you.
Last time around, I waited too long to let you know how things were going because I was so worried that I would not be able to reach my goals and feel like I let you down. This time, I am filling you in early, so even if I don't reach my goals, you can learn from my mistakes! Happy training!
