"Support our Troops!"
We hear the words over and over again. We see them every day on bumper stickers. And while the vast majority of us do support America's armed forces, we often pay little mind to the families they leave back home. Not only are they left to worry about their loved ones far way; they are often left to cope with life's little inconveniences. The drain is plugged. The mower won't start. Dinner doesn't taste the same.
The San Antonio Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer a course designed to help military families in managing the changes that occur in their lives when their service members are deployed. The course is being offered of charge and will be open to military family members of active duty, Reserve and National Guard forces, as well as veterans and their families.
The Red Cross developed the course to address the stresses and strains of deployments on military family members, including spouses, children, parents, siblings and significant others of service members and veterans. It is being taught by actively licensed Red Cross mental health professionals.
The course will be held Monday, March 22, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Red Cross office at Fort Sam Houston located in Building 2650. It's at the corner of Patch and Harney Streets.
Anyone arriving in a private vehicle without a pass will have to show a valid driver's license and a copy of the vehicle's insurance. The Walters Street entrance is the only entrance into Fort Sam Houston for civilians.
