Every new year I think about the possibilities of going back to school. And today I met a couple who inspired me to do just that and so much more.
Everyday we meet a lot of new people in this business. Today was no different. But, today their story stuck.
He's 40 and she's 34. He's retired from the Army and she's a former teacher. Together they run two busineses and they run a few races. Both have completed marathons, including one in Paris (also, a personal goal of mine!). In fact, she's already completed 9 FULL marathons. That means precious weekends are filled with training and discipline. But with all these obligations, who has time to go back to school?
They do!
This amazing couple are working on their SECOND master's degree. Currently he has an MBA and she has a masters in education. Now they're both working on ANOTHER one! As the saying goes, if they can do it... so can I!!! It makes me wonder what I've been doing all this time. This is why I've decided that '09 was going to be mine... my year to re-focus on my goals.
Depending on our situation, we all manage our time differently. We all get 24 hours to finish our daily routine and we try to set aside 8 of those hours for sleep. So where do we fit in the goals we've set aside for the new year?
When I was going through a workout program with my personal trainer and friend Monica Connelly, I told her about reaching my fitness goals in a short amount of time. I asked, "am I asking for too much?" And she said, "it's possible, depends how badly do you want it?" I wanted it... and I completed my first full marathon that year.
It made me realize all things are possible. It's all about your priorities.
Back to the couple. The husband told me he and his wife are always eager to learn something new... learn how to better their minds... and learn to be better business owners.
Wow. Isn't that what life is all about? From every facet our lives, we can all become better people. It's why for anyone thinking about getting back on the treadmill, reading more books, or finding a new adventure, why not make '09 yours!?
This is the year I re-focus my focus. Rather than taking a cue from getting in better shape and sticking to my original motto... "be fine in '09"... I've decided it was time to "Make '09 Mine!"
