Each and every day of my life, I give thanks for something.
People. Experiences. Shelter.
It can be anything.
Since my grandfather taught me to get on my knees and pray at night, the idea of being thankful has been with me always.
When Thanksgiving rolled around, I particularly enjoyed the comfort of being with family and friends.
Giving thanks is simply extra, because I do it year round.
I encourage you to come up with your own list of things for which you’re thankful.
Here are a few things that top my list this holiday season:
I'm thankful for ... a family that supports and loves me unconditionally. A grandmother who tells me the truth and turns my "Bridget" off.
I'm thankful for ... a job and bosses that allow me to tap into a dream. To be my full self in every way, every day, without compromise.
I'm thankful for ... the peace and quiet of my own mind. That I can find joy in spending a day alone, and there’s complete satisfaction with my own company.
I'm thankful for ... a nephew who throws his arms open to love me and hug me with everything he has. A little boy not yet old enough to know his aunt is not perfect.
I'm thankful for ... the person who walked out of my life and left me confused.
I'm thankful for ... the person who walked in and replaced hurt with joy.
I'm thankful for ... the friend I can cry with and share with. A friend who keeps me together when I’m unraveling inside.
I’m thankful for ... perspective, finally, on what my mother used to say: Even when things break you, they won’t in fact kill you.
I'm thankful for ... good health, a feeling of wellness, and a sound mind. Well, most days.
I'm thankful for ... the beauty of fresh flowers, and my own office to enjoy them.
I'm thankful for ... a caring team of talented producers who work hard on my behalf. They lift me up and let me stand.
I'm thankful for ... the young people in my life who've come to trust me for guidance and counsel. I'm thankful that as a mentor, my voice has that kind of reach.
I'm thankful for ... the many viewers I hear from every day: Those who tell me the things I want to hear, and those who tell me the things I don't. You are the reason I do this show.
And finally, I’m thankful for ... a loving grandfather who long ago taught me how to recognize goodness and give thanks in my life.
For all of this, and a spectacularly blessed life...
I’m thankful.
