Welcome to the pressure of trying to make a New Year's Resolution.
Why the pressure?
Well, because everybody does it and it's a good idea to come up with one.
I know, I know! It's never a good idea to do what everyone else is doing just because they're doing it!
But there is a long standing stigma that comes with the whole resolution thing.
Inevitably, someone will ask you what yours is.
If you don't have one, and are not thinking of making one, you suddenly appear to the person asking as if you don't care much about your life.
Of course that could be the furthest thing from the truth.
Still, there is an unspoken expectation, that at least if you aim towards improving some aspect of your being, you're ok.
I never tire of hearing what other people have chosen as their resolutions.
I tire of hearing mine.
Every new year, it's the same old resolution.
I'm a broken record in my head.
Lose weight, save money, do more charity , be a better girlfriend, sister, and granddaughter.
Some of these come naturally, others take work.
I know about mid-February how the resolutions I've made are coming along.
It's usually the one about weight. Shocking.
At what point do we fulfill our resolutions and then no longer have to make the same ones next year?
Isn't that the goal?
If I'm making the same resolutions year after year, it means I didn't meet my expectations the year prior.
So this year I have the perfect resolution.
It's not about food, weight, relationships or money.
Its about learning how to keep the resolutions I actually make.
2010 is going to be a fun and challenging year.
Now, where's that pie?
