I want you to know what happens to the incredible staff of Great Day once the cameras stop rolling. Our day is only really beginning.
For me, there's a customary meet and greet with guests and oftentimes, an extensive period of picture taking and question answering.
It's one of the aspects of this job that I love. Talking with people is one of my favorite things to do.
I've also taken note of our gracious producers. They smile through that "post-show" visiting as well.
Once the studio clears, we meet up with our director David. It is in the confines of our control room that we experience the joy of doing promos for the next day.
Welcome to a process that can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes given the circumstances of the day. "What David? The video hasn't been rendered?" ( No, I don't know what you mean when you say the video doesn't have wings on the side.)
When it's all said and done, Alas. There is something nice about the walk back to my office.
It is my time to mentally bring it down. The show is over. I turn "Bridget" off. Nobody is that excited all the time.
Back at my desk with warm light bathing my spirit, I mentally gather my thoughts. The wonder of Quiet time. Another show in the history books.
And then... it happens.
Out of the wild blue yonder, in the beautiful peace of the morning, someone yells, (usually for neighboring departments to hear), "LET'S MEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "
There's no getting away from it. It WILL happen. You can't will it away.
All hail THE call to GDSA staffers: The reminder that tomorrow there's another show and we must meet about it.
Now, let's examine the motive of the person who usually yells, "LET'S MEET!"
Typically this is an individual who at THAT particular time realizes, it's a good time for THEM!!!!!!!!
Rarely is it the SAME person who yells. We've all yelled it at some point.
The unspoken assumption is that everyone within earshot of the command is to drop WHATEVER they're doing and race to the meeting room.
I wonder: Why is it that one assumes because it's a good time for them to meet, it's also a GREAT time for everyone else? What a coincidence!!!!!!!!!!!! You're ready too????
Consider this, though, if you've been a yeller in your office:
What if at that crucial time of yelling, your co-worker is on the line with the phone company making arrangements because their service is about to be cancelled?
Hmmm.
What if you're on the line with the vet and you're just about to get the crucial news that the medical "situation" with your bird is not.....looking good. You need to make a decision that's sure to ruffle your feathers, and his.
You see, you never know where anyone is at any given point in their day. Just because they're at their desk and you can see them doesn't mean a crisis isn't unfolding.
And lastly, What if your best friend is calling from overseas sobbing that her 15 year marriage is broken? Finally, on this day, she's placed that expensive international call to tell YOU what she's been ashamed to tell you for months.....it's over. He's leaving. 3 plus kids in the mix, and he's found someone else.
Then, out of nowhere....
"LET'S MEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Do at this point, what only a loving and concerned friend might do:
"Hey, can I call you back?"
