There is no escaping the fact that college costs are rising. According to recently released reports from the College Board, most students and their families this year can expect to pay, on average, between $172 and $1,096 more than last year for tuition and fees, depending on the type of college or university.
There are fewer than three weeks left now for college bound San Antonio high school seniors looking for financial assistance to apply for the 2010 Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 5.
The City's Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is currently accepting applications from all graduating seniors who attend a high school within Bexar County.
If you're interested in obtaining an application, you can do so by visiting the City's website at www.sanantonio.gov/mlk and selecting the link for scholarship information. Applications may be submitted online or by mail.
Each year, the MLK Commission awards $1000 scholarships to area students. These scholarship funds come from a variety of charitable donors which include small businesses, large corporations, non-profit groups and individual citizens. Scholarship recipients will be recognized during a City Council meeting in May.
