18-wheeler crashes into school bus, tumbles off overpass

A school bus carrying kids from the Corpus area hit an 18-wheeler on Loop 410 Saturday evening. No injuries have been reported.

An 18-wheeler hit a school bus and then flew off the highway on Saturday evening.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. on Loop 410 near WW White Road. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transferred to a local hospital priority one.

The school bus was carrying a high school Spanish club from Tuloso-Midway ISD in Corpus Christi. The kids were taken to a nearby Wal-Mart by a VIA bus where they could wait for their parents to take them back home.

According to a witness who saw the accident happen, the big rig driver ignored traffic that was stopped on the highway and lost control before hitting the bus. The 18-wheeler crashed down onto the access road. As a result, a HAZMAT team had to clean up the fuel spill.

The assistant superintendent of the district where the students were from said that none of the kids were seriously injured, just scared and shaken up.
