Cowboys DE Sam Williams turns himself in on reckless driving warrant, records say

Williams was involved in a crash in Plano on Dec. 22.

PLANO, Texas — Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams turned himself in on a reckless driving warrant on Tuesday, according to Collin County jail records.

Williams, who was active for the Cowboys' Monday night game in Tampa, was booked and released the same day, the records said.

Plano police last week confirmed that a warrant was issued for Williams, but more details about the warrant were not released, officials said.

Reckless driving is a misdemeanor in Texas.

Williams was involved in a crash in Plano on Dec. 22. Police said Williams was driving a black Corvette southbound on Preston Road around 2:15 p.m. when he collided with a black Infiniti that was going northbound and attempting to turn onto Towne Square Drive, near SH 121.

Police said both Williams and the other driver, who police said is 71 years old, were taken to a hospital as a precaution. They didn't appear to have serious injuries, police said.

Police said Williams was going 98 mph in a 55 mph zone, and said that the accident would not have happened if he had been driving slower.

Shortly after the crash happened, Williams tweeted about the incident, saying, "I'm okay everyone so is the other person that was involved."

The 23-year-old rookie has been a part of the Cowboys' defensive line rotation throughout the 2022 season.

He finished the regular season with 15 tackles and four sacks, as well as one forced fumble.

The Cowboys chose Williams in the second round with the 56th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ole Miss.

The Cowboys play the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, Calif., on Sunday.
