Spurs center Pau Gasol is expected to decline his option with the Spurs for the upcoming season and become a free agent, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo's The Vertical reported Tuesday.
Gasol intends to work with the Spurs on structuring a longer term deal to remain in San Antonio, Wojnarowski said, based on information from league sources.

The Spurs are seeking salary cap relief to maximize flexibility as they structure the 2017-18 roster. The team is expected to have a significant amount of cap space this offseason and next season.
Gasol could return to the Spurs on a smaller annual salary stretched over a longer term of years.
The NBA Draft is this Thursday night. Free agency does not begin until July 1, when players can begin making verbal agreements with teams. New free agent contracts can't be signed before July 6.
