REPORT: Hammon sticking with Spurs after CSU talks for MBB head coaching job

The offers and jobs keep getting better and better but so far Becky Hammon hasn't found the right offer to make her leave the Spurs coaching staff.

According to a report from Yahoo Sports, Becky Hammon has ended talks with the Colorado State men’s basketball program to become their new head coach and is sticking with the San Antonio Spurs for now.

Hammon had been talking to CSU about the job for about a month but will stay in San Antonio for now.

There’s never been a woman in a head coaching position for a Division I men’s basketball team, and if anyone was going to score a coaching prospect like Hammon, it might’ve been her alma mater. But with Hammon reportedly turning down a mid-major (no offer was ever reportedly on the table), it means that she could be aiming higher, either looking at a power conference team or NBA team.

There are five current NBA head coaches that have served under Popovich, and if the Spurs make the playoffs without having Kawhi Leonard most of the season and dealing with the injuries the way they have all year, it’ll be a boon to everyone on that coaching staff looking for head coaching gigs.

Hammon proved her worth right away in the Spurs organization. In her first year, she led San Antonio’s Summer League team to a Las Vegas Summer League title.

There have been different schools and programs that have expressed interest in Hammon joining them, but as time has gone on, the programs keep getting bigger and bigger.

It’s only a matter of time before Hammon takes a head coaching job somewhere. Now, it seems like it’ll definitely be a men’s team and it’ll definitely be a major college program or an NBA franchise.
