GILLESPIE COUNTY, Texas -- The Harper Independent School District announced the district is closed to students Thursday.

Superintendent Christ Stevenson said early Thursday that the closure is a result of a "water issue in the community."

The district posted the following statement on its website Wednesday:

"Due to a water situation with Aqua, TX, we are forced to close school Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 for students. A phone message will be sent to parents [Wednesday night] and in the morning. All extra-curricular activities will remain scheduled. We will update everyone on possible changes to all school activities as we have further information."

Harper ISD also said that staff members should report to work at 9 a.m.

More information on the closure was not immediately available.
