Original Story:

Two suspects are on the run after a man was killed Monday afternoon in the area of Saulsbury Drive and Betsy Ross in Temple.

According to Temple PIO Shawana Neely, around 2:15 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired at the intersection. Shortly after, a manhunt ensued with police searching for the suspects for hours.

As a precaution, Kennedy-Powell Elementary School, Temple High School, and Peanut Gallery Academy were placed on a hard lockdown. However, the lockdowns were lifted just after 4:00 p.m.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found a male with a gunshot wound. He was given CPR, however, the victim died from his injuries.

Police said they are currently looking for two black males.

Temple police had a two-block perimeter set along with a DPS helicopter searching the area.

Longtime Temple resident Dave Jefferson said things are getting bad.

"I'm very disappointed coming over here and seeing a body on the ground and not knowing who it is," Jefferson said. "It's very disappointing that you're seeing a lot of youngsters out here dying and wasting their life to prison."

It's unclear on what led to the shooting, but Jefferson hopes it is a wake up call of everyone to get and stay on the right track.

"I wish there was something I could do but there ain't nothing I can do but try to talk to them," he said.

Temple police, The Texas Rangers, and DPS are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Temple police.
