SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio woman was fatally stabbed inside her north-side Sunday morning.

Officers were called just before 10 a.m. Sunday to the 1900 block of Santa Anna where Cinthia Vargas-Sanchez was found suffering from serious stab wounds.

Witness told police they saw Sanchez running from her house after being attacked by a male suspect. According to police, Sanchez was able to escape and was assisted by neighbors several doors down the street.

Sanchez was transported to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died Sunday evening at the hospital just one day before her birthday. She would have been 29.

Police are still searching for the suspect who escaped on foot.
