Tuberculosis case reported at Boerne ISD school

Officials with the Boerne Independent School District announced today that an individual at Boerne Middle School South was diagnosed with Tuberculosis.

Officials with the Boerne Independent School District announced today that an individual at Boerne Middle School South was diagnosed with Tuberculosis.

The district did not say whether it was a student, teacher, or another staff member who had contracted the lung disease. They did say the individual was currently "under medical care and supervision" in an open letter sent to parents Wednesday.

District officials say that the Texas Department of State Health Services is currently working with the school to prevent the disease from spreading.

DSHS says that they will contact any students that may have been exposed to tuberculosis and will conduct blood tests. Testing won't begin until March 21, the district says, because it takes 8-10 weeks from the time of exposure for a blood test to detect TB.

DSHS will also hold meetings on Thursday, February 22 and Tuesday, February 27 at Boerne Middle School South to answer any questions the community may have about the diagnosis. Meetings will take place at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm/
