Trump tapping former Bexar County Sheriff to be U.S. Marshal

Officials say President Trump intends to nominate Susan Pamerleau to be the next United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas.

The White House announced on Thursday that President Trump is tapping a former Bexar County Sheriff for a major position.

Officials say that President Trump intends to nominate Susan Pamerleau to be the next United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas.

“Just like in any new job, there's a lot to learn. What I did know already, is that there are great people right here in the western district, and I’m excited to be joining them,” she said.

Since Pamerleau left the sheriff's office, she's been serving on several boards in the community. But the retired major general said she’s always felt there was new adventure waiting for her.

“People my age are retiring,” she said. “What excites me and what makes my life meaningful is being able to contribute to my community in a meaningful way.”

Serving in the military and rising through the ranks at a time when it was rare for women to do so, and being the first woman elected as sheriff in Bexar County, she continues to be a pioneer.

“The fact that I'm a woman, is just that, a fact,” she said. “If you can't get the job done, nothing else matters.”

The nomination is not official just yet. The White House will now send her nomination to the senate for consideration, which can happen within one week.

Pamerleau served 32 years in the Air Force before retiring as a Major General.

She served as Bexar County Sheriff from 2013 through 2016.
