A Union Pacific freight train and an 18-wheel tanker truck collided at a crossing near Dilley Tuesday evening.

The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. Officers say the tanker truck was carrying more than 9,000 gallons of crude oil. All of the cargo was ignited when the train ran over the tanker and destroyed it.

Volunteer firefighters from Dilley as well as emergency responders from La Salle County Fire Rescue battled the blaze.

The train crew was uninjured in the crash, according to reports. The tanker truck driver was taken to Frio Regional and was released overnight.
