In a statement sent to KENS 5 the postal service encourages residents to "check their mailboxes frequently and as soon as possible after the mail is delivered to lessen the risk of mail theft,".
One resident, Charles, told KENS 5 he left his apartment around 5 a.m. Tuesday and returned at 6:30 a.m. to see the mailboxes broken into.
“Somebody in my building told me they heard something, like the sound of somebody checking their mail but very noisily,” Charles said.
He said this isn’t the first time he’s had something stolen at the apartment complex.“I had a scooter stolen in late October from in front of my building. And about a month ago, or six weeks ago I caught somebody trying to steal my replacement scooter by cutting into a lock, and he had not been successful and took off before the police got here,” Charles said.Charles reported both incidents to police.Residents are encouraged to contact their local post office to report missing items. If you or anyone you know have any information on the suspect or suspects involved in the mailbox theft contact 210-368-1623.
