The effect of package explosions on other shippers

This morning's explosion has many people wondering whether their packages will arrive on time.

We spoke with representatives from several local FedEx Office locations, the U.S. Postal Service, and UPS Stores. All three said it was business as usual and that they weren't expected any shipping delays, but this morning's explosion still has all of them on edge.

"It's surreal; you're supposed to feel safe at home, then all this happened and you are second guessing everything - walking out the door, checking around door steps and everything so it's really scary," said Drew Hollis. Hollis works just two buildings away from the FedEx location that had the explosion this morning, but lives in Austin where the previous explosions happened. He added, "I've been pretty close to those other explosions there so it's pretty crazy right now to be going through this."

Like most in Austin and now in the San Antonio area, those that work at shipping locations and anyone receiving a package are on a heightened alert. Officials continue to stress safety over worrying about your packages arriving on time.

"The safety of the employees and the public is and remains our principal focus," Schertz mayor Michael Carpenter said.

"If you have a package that was not expected, if you are suspicious of the return address, if you come across any suspicious object, do not touch it, do not move it, but contact 911," Schertz Chief of Police Michael Hansen said.

Bexar County residents in the unincorporated areas of the county are urged to call the Sheriff's non-emergency number to report any suspicious package at 210-335-0600. In San Antonio, call SAPD at 311.
