SEGUIN – The Seguin Police Department arrested three men after obtaining a search warrant for a home linked to the 74 Hoover Crips gang.

After an extensive investigation, on Oct. 19 the Special Crimes Unit obtained a search warrant for a home in the 500 block of Avenue C in Seguin.

At the home, officers located a pound of meth and a little over $1,000 in cash. Police said officers located two additional pounds of meth, a pound of cocaine, a bulletproof vest, and guns in a vehicle outside. Police said all the items inside the vehicle were linked back to the 74 Hoover Crips gang member 24-year-old Mason Schmidt.

At the home, police arrested Schmidt who later confessed to ownership of the drugs and guns inside the vehicle. He was charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine. Also arrested were 33-year-old Donald Matthews Jr. and 25-year-old Gilbert Brown III who were both booked into the Guadalupe County Jail for narcotics possession and engaging in an organized criminal activity.

Police said the total amount of meth found carried a street value of $70,000 and the cocaine $15,000. All of the narcotics were packaged and ready for distribution or sale.
