The Carry the Load Bus has covered a lot of ground since it left Seattle April 27. The West Coast relay team left San Antonio on Monday afternoon to travel to New Braunfels. Along the way, they met a man who says he's carrying the load for his brother who died in Vietnam.

"We've been Carry the load Supporters for years as our college is down in Georgia, which is where several of these guys are from," John and Marilyn Durham said.

They were thrilled to meet the team and feed them a little Cooper's Fried chicken at Big's on the northeast side before they left San Antonio.

"When they make this kind of commitment, young people today, you have to get out there and support them," the Durhams said.

"I saw on Twitter that they were going to be nearby so I thought I would come out and show my support," Art Moreno said.

"I heard about you guys being out in Comfort and I had no idea what it was about and I saw you guys again this morning on my feed and said, 'I'm going to find out what this is all about.' So we came by and decided to be part of it," San Antonio residents Liz and Vanessa said.

"It's not about beer and barbecue. It's about all the first responders, police and firemen, and military who have given their lives so we can have the freedoms we have," John Durham said.

"San Antonio was amazing. The support here was overwhelming, especially for the first year. Hopefully, we can build on that next year," said Noah Luetkemeyer from Carry The Load.

From San Marcos the team heads to Austin on Tuesday, College Station on Wednesday, and Houston on Thursday, with the final stop and 20-hour, 16-minute march in Dallas on Sunday when they meet up with the East Coast relay team.
