One year later, family pleads for help in unsolved homicide case

Exactly one year ago, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office says a passerby found 29-year-old Ricardo Sanchez's body near Calaveras Lake. No arrests have been made in the case.

SAN ANTONIO -- Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of a San Antonio man who was found dead on the banks of a creek in Bexar County.

Feburary 20th, 2017 around 2:30 p.m., the Bexar County Sheriff's Office says a passerby found 29-year-old Ricardo Sanchez's body near Calaveras Lake located on Highway 181 near Richter Road. The Medical Examiner's Office confirmed he died from a gunshot wound and it was ruled a homicide.

"We just wake up to the nightmare every single day. It's hard," said Angelic Barron, ex-girlfriend.

An affidavit stated that Sanchez was the victim of an aggravated assault involving a different ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend on February 16th. Family members reported that they hadn't seen Sanchez or his vehicle since that time.

Eyewitness News spoke with his loved ones at the memorial site they set up in his honor near Edison High School. It's where the reported aggravated assault took place. The family set up a cross, flowers and his picture near the road.

"It's very hard. Very hard for me. because I miss him a lot. It's been too long and nobody's been found and they don't come forward to say you know. to confess. So, my son can have justice," said Rose Sanchez, mother.

Police have not connected the aggravated assault incident to Sanchez's death. But they said that two rounds from a gun and a large amount of blood were found at the scene. Eyewitnesses told police that Sanchez and the suspect left the scene in Sanchez's vehicle on February 16th.

Sanchez leaves behind 3 children. No arrests have been made in this case. If you have any information, contact Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP (7867). Information can also be sent by email to the Homicide Unit at homicide@sanantonio.gov.
