The NEISD board of trustees will meet Monday night to discuss the public submissions on a new name for Robert E. Lee High School.
Over the summer, the school board voted to rename the school during a national movement to remove Confederate statues. The removals included one here in San Antonio. A Confederate memorial was recently removed from Travis Park.
Shortly after voting to rename the school, the board asked for suggestions from the public on a new name. Last week, the district released the names of more than 2,400 submissions. More than 80 percent of them were deemed inappropriate because of vulgarities or offensive language. Only 542 met the criteria.
The board may not make a final decision on Monday. The members could decide on a list of final names to be considered.
