SAN ANTONIO - Several fires kept the San Antonio Fire Department busy Monday night.

One of those fires forced a family of five out of their home when the fire started around 10:40 p.m. Monday on in the 900 block of Dover Ridge.

The homeowners said they heard a cracking noise coming from their AC unit and when they went to check it out it caught fire. The fire spread to the rest of the house.

Two adults and three children in the home were able to make it out safely.

Just about 20 minutes before that fire, SAFD firefighters were in the 400 block of East Drexel at an abandoned home burning. No one was hurt but there was substantial damage to the building.

Then just before 12:30 a.m. a third fire broke out, this time in the garage of a home in the 1400 block of Tranquil Trail. SAFD said there was a sort of wood shop in the garage and some of the material were burned.

An elderly couple lives in the home and were able to make it out safely and later go back to their house.
