SAN ANTONIO - A man is in the hospital after a car hit him as he crossed the street.

The 41-year-old victim was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition. Police said he was unconscious but breathing when they arrived on scene shortly after the accident.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 900 block Guadalupe near South Richter Street.

Police said a man was driving westbound on Guadalupe when the man was crossing the road. They said the driver didn't see the victim until it was too late and his SUV hit him.

Police said the driver was not hurt nor was his wife who was in the passenger seat. The car had some serious damage and had to be towed.

They said the driver will not face charges since it appears to be an unfortunate accident on a dark road.
