SAN ANTONIO -- General Motors Financial Company held a ceremony to announce the opening of its new service center in San Antonio.
Thursday morning, the company held its ribbon-cutting event at the center located at the intersection of Westover Link and North Ellison Drive. Back in April 2016, GM Financial broke ground on the 100,000 sq. foot facility. The company said through its center, it's already added more than 200 jobs and may add more in the future. The facility houses up to 700 employees.
Several city, county and state leaders attended the event. State Senator Jose Menendez, state representative Ina Minjarez, Bexar County judge Nelson Wolff , congressman Joaquin Castro and Jenna Saucedo-Herrera the president and CEO of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation.
"Having them here really validates the importance of GM Financial to the community. It's our way to express our thanks to them. The city, county and state were all instrumental in attracting us to San Antonio. So we can thank them for their help," said Dan Berc, Gm Financial President and CEO.
GM Financial also announced its special donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio. The company presented two free cars to the organization. It's part of the 'Cool Cars for Remarkable Kids' program. Since launching earlier this year, GM Financial has give 17 cars to Ronald McDonald House's across the country.
"The families that stay with us come from all over the world and families whose children have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or injury," said Pat Bivin, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio. "It gives the houses, the staff at the houses the ability to get what the families need. To really just make it easier and less stressful for the families."
GM Financial also coordinated a supplies donation drive to help the House and collect items on the families' wish list. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio serves 1,500 families a year at its three facilities.
