San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood was requesting more prayers for healing in a press conference Tuesday for Firefighter Brad Phipps.

Chief Hood said Phipps was still in critical but stable condition after sustaining burns last month while fighting a fire at Ingram Square Shopping Center that claimed the life of a fellow firefighter, Scott Deem.

Chief Hood noted that his condition was improving and said that Phipp’s breathing tube had been removed. “I was able to walk in and tell him that I’m very proud of him,” said Chief Hood.

Phipps has been part of SAFD since 2006. Phipp’s father was also a firefighter who has since retired.

“Please continue your prayers,” said Chief Hood.
