SAN ANTONIO-- KENS 5 discovered numerous tweets after Metallica's packed Alamodome show Wednesday night, indicating that fans drank the venue dry before the band even hit the stage!

But it appears that what may have happened was nothing of the sort.

Fans didn't drink all of the beer at the Alamodome, but were, rather, cut off. And not by the venue, but by the band itself.

Numerous fans posted on the comment thread of our original story that this is a tradition for Metallica shows, as they are now sober.

KENS 5 reached out to the Alamodome following this discovery and was offered the following statement:

It is common practice for Metallica to request that beer sales be discontinued as soon as the band takes the stage. Thus, beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, all beer concessions were closed. In the future, we will ensure that in the event the artist imposes such restrictions, this will be posted at each concession stand.” -Nicholas Langella, Alamodome General Manager

So while the band may have put the kibosh on the booze, it would appear that didn't' affect attendance too much. Live Nation reports the performance was attended by nearly 50,000 people.
