It's a clever, eye-catching way to bring more awareness to the crisis of abused and neglected kids. ChildSafe is giving out Cardboard Kids cut-outs for display all over the city.
The two-foot tall blank canvas is shaped like a child, ready for an artist to unleash their imagination.
"I've done one before," ChildSafe volunteer Daniska Simpson said. "I've used marker to decorate it."
While these Cardboard Kids are cute, they are also created for awareness.
"Everyone that decorates them puts them outside," Simpson said. "Whenever you're outside, you're able to see the cardboard and you let your kids know about kids being abused.
In 2015, there were 4,941 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect in Bexar County.
