Violent crimes are down in San Antonio.

Decreasing from more than 10,000 in 2016, to just over 9,400 for 2017.

Of those crimes, 126 were homicides.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office had 21 homicides in 2016, with 14 in 2017.

The San Antonio Police Department had 149 homicides in 2016, with 126 for 2017.

"We're happy that the numbers seem to be on a downward trend, we're hoping that with some hard work on our side, some public education, we can keep those numbers trending downward." Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

Although the numbers are still high, Sheriff Salazar says BCSO's relationship with SAPD could be one of the main reasons.

"Two agencies have never worked together the way they're working together now." Salazar said.

Sheriff Salazar says his deputies are organizing a number of community outreach programs and events targeting high risk communities.
