SAN ANTONIO -- The North East Independent School District said two students were arrested after bringing a weapon to Lee High School Tuesday.

A letter from principal Nicole Franco states students reported that two students showed them a gun. Franco said administrators investigated immediately and found the two students responsible.

A spokesperson for the school district later reported to KENS 5 Thursday that the weapon in question was an "airsoft gun." The district said it was considered non-deadly.

"I am proud of our students for the immediate reporting and proud of the administration team and NEPD for their quick action that ensured all students and staff were safe. The situation was handled in accordance with the NEISD Student Code of Conduct," Franco said in the letter.

NEISD said the school district's police department confiscated the weapon.

The letter also asks parents to remind their students to immediately report suspicious activity in order to "maintain a safe campus."
