KERR COUNTY, Texas - The Ingram Independent School District said it is closed Friday due to widespread student illness.

The district said school was already scheduled to be closed Monday due to Presidents Day. Ingram ISD expects classes to resume Tuesday.

Ingram ISD said it made the decision to close based on a "peak" in student illness, but more information was not immediately available.

The district released the following statement:

"The health, safety and well-being of our students, staff and their families is our primary concern. During the time our district is closed, we will ensure that our buses and facilities receive an intensive cleaning to be prepared for our students’ return."

As KENS 5 reported, nearby Hunt ISD closed about a week ago after more than 50 of the district's 169 students were out with the flu.

The district said the closure will not affect weekend activities. Varsity Tennis will travel to Uvalde on Friday and Saturday as planned. Ingram ISD also said ITM Baseball will scrimmage Sabinal in Ingram Friday.
