Dozens join Mayor Nirenberg to stay fit while giving back

The next Mayor Fitness Council event will be June 5.

San Antonians braved the cold wind and joined Mayor Ron Nirenberg for a Mayor Fitness Council event on Saturday afternoon.

Dozens of people helped beautify the east portion of Phil Hardberger Park by laying down some fresh mulch.

"What we're doing is coming out here and really combing the best of both worlds. We were able to get healthy and exercise and burn some calories and give back to our community," Jeff Shelton said.

A nonprofit organization called 'Work Out Help Out' also had a fitness instructor getting people into shape.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg said that it just shows how working out and staying healthy can be easy and free.

"The 'Get Strong with Mayor Ron' and the Mayor Fitness Council is really geared towards helping people understand that there is an infinite number of ways to get in shape, to stay fit,” the mayor said. “It's about a lifestyle and it's about something that suits you.”

The next Mayor Fitness Council event will be on June 5. You can find more details and free workout events near you by clicking here.
