A group of San Antonio pastors say that the Sutherland Springs shooting is a wake-up call for security, but they urge people not to live in fear.
"We have to be wise as serpents but innocent as doves," said Pastor Mario Nava with Living Faith Church pastor. "The gates of hell will not prevail against the church."
The pastors point to scriptures to help ease those nervous about coming to church.
"He has not given us the spirit of fear, but the spirit of power and love," said Eddie Leija with Emanuel Community Church.
The pastors said that securing their churches is nothing new. All have cameras in place but said that the shooting is a wake-up call to do more.
All three also said that they have safety teams ready. Fortress Church Pastor Randy Garcia said that people should come to church knowing safety is a top propriety.
"We have these teams in strategic positions to keep people safe, allow them to come to church not in fear but in freedom," Pastor Garcia said.
All three pastors said that being smart about security is their duty as pastors. They know that a shooting like what happened in Sutherland Springs can happen anywhere, so they are staying vigilant.
