Shaun Puente found guilty of capital murder for killing SAPD officer

Shaun Ruiz Puente was convicted of capital murder by a jury on Wednesday. The sentencing phase of the trial has begun.

Shaun Ruiz Puente has been found guilty of capital murder for shooting and killing San Antonio Police Department Officer Bobby Deckard in December of 2013.

According to police, four years ago, Puente and Jenevieve Ramos were leading police on a chase from San Antonio to Atascosa when Puente started shooting at officers, striking Officer Deckard in the head. Deckard died two weeks later.

The jury deliberated for nearly five hours and found Puente guilty of capital murder.

The sentencing phase of the trial is now underway. Puente could face the death penalty.

Puente and Ramos were both indicted on capital murder charges for the incident.

Authorities say that the shooting was part of a crime spree in 2013.

SAPD Chief William McManus addressed the conviction during a press conference at police headquarters:
