SAN MARCOS, Texas – A jury sentenced a San Marcos man, convicted of abusing two girls over a period of years, to two life sentences plus more than 1,000 years in prison.
The Hays County District Attorney’s Office said Robert Benjamin Franks, 39, was convicted Nov. 27 on two counts of continuous sexual abuse, nine counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and six counts of indecency with a child. Both victims were known to Franks, and the second victim accused Franks of abusing her for years after initially denying any sexual contact with him.
The trial was Nov. 13-20, and the jury deliberated for one hour on Nov. 27 before returning guilty verdicts on all 17 counts. The continuous sexual abuse charges both brought life sentences, 99-year sentences for each aggravated sexual assault charge and 20 years for each indecency charge. After the verdict was read, the presiding judge assessed more than $93,000 in fines and ordered that the sentences would be served consecutively.
“Words cannot really express the depth of the betrayal and outrage warranted by conduct like this, committed by a man who should have been caring for and protecting these children,” Hays County District Attorney Wes Mau said in a release. “The jury’s sentence speaks more eloquently than I can to make clear how our community feels about crimes like these.”
